1.       Establish Purpose/Direction

Based on the ‘useful information’ section on the previous page describe what your main strengths are and what areas you think need to be developed for each discipline. Remember that you must justify each of your strengths against your past experiences and training.

Computer Systems (Unit 2)

2.       Identify Your Development Needs

Outline which of the highlighted development areas will be your priority (e.g. which are you main weaknesses) and justify why you have chosen them (e.g. knowledge of building a computer – never had the opportunity to build a standalone computer).

Priority 1	I need to find out the difference between hardware and software
Priority 2	It would help me if I gained some experience in building a computer
Priority 3	I need to learn how to create a website and interactive elements for a website
Priority 4	It would be beneficial for me to gain knowledge  in user side and server side factors that can influence website usability

3.       Development Opportunities

Explain how you hope to improve the skills that you have highlighted. What resources/opportunities will be at your disposal (e.g. lesson time, online tutorials)

During developing my weaknesses I will have many resources at my disposal. For example I will have lesson time for researching things that I need to gain some knowledge i.e. the difference between hardware and software. I will have the expertise of my teacher at hand so if I need to ask any questions he will be there to help with any queries that I have. I will also have access to things such as online tutorials so I can take a look at how to build a computer. I could also use the library to get some books on things such as hardware and software. As time passes throughout the course I will update my progress in developing my weaknesses.

4.       Formulate Action Plan – Set Targets

Create a set of SMART targets based on your identified needs from the previous section.

Target 1	In the next term I will use the Internet in lesson time to gain some knowledge in utilities that different software applications have and be able to confidently use them to customise tools available
Target 2	By the end of the year (24/05/12) I will gain some experience in hardware as I will learn how to build a computer.
Target 3	By 24/05/12 I will learn how to create a website with interactive elements and I will test its usability and consistency.
Target 4	I will use the internet to gain knowledge in user side and server side factors and do a questionnaire regarding the usability of the website by 24/05/12
Target 5	I will go to the library so that I will fully understand different operating systems and be able to confidently talk about the them by 24/05/12
Target 6	I will ask my teacher to enhance my knowledge in utilities so that I will be able speak about them confidently by 24/05/12
